Predator Priests, Part 1

Upon reflection, and from my Own experience as a catholic priest, would say that the reason the authorities find it difficult to take strong action against erring priests is that there are so few of them (priests).

It takes a minimum of 7 years of training. Taking my case, in my First of Seminary studies, there were 28 of us. Only 7 got ordained.

For all that, it is Both Criminal, and Sinful, (which is worse), not to take strong action against the erring ones. Paradoxically, Strong Action ‘Would’ bring in More vocations, I believe.

This is where I believe in Violence. If I were the Parent of an abused Kid, I would Thrash up the culprit, making sure to give Lots of ‘Lasting’ pain, without maiming him, – and, according to the 11th command, making sure that I am Not caught for the act.

Is Violence the answer? No, of course. But at the same time, there is Nothing Wrong with Violence of the sort I prescribe. Am Absolutely Sure it will be Much Less than what awaits all these, and those who collude with them, namely, the ecclesiastical authorities.

“If anyone should cause one of these little ones to lose his Faith in Me, it would be Better for that person to have a Large Millstone tied round his neck and Drowned in the Deep Sea.” Matt. 18:6.

Considering the Fear of the Sea that the Israelites, at least of Jesus’ time had, these were Extremely Powerful words. Uttered Knowingly, and Understood as such by the audience.

Pennsylvania Attorney General, Josh Shapiro, this week released the results of what may be the most comprehensive state investigation into child sexual abuse and cover-up by the Roman Catholic Church in the nation’s history [1A].

Examining over 70 years of church records, the grand jury investigation identified301 predator priests, and more than 1000 child victims, across six dioceses (Allentown, Erie, Greensburg, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh and Scranton).  Sexual abuse by priests was earlier uncovered in two other Pennsylvania dioceses (Philadelphia and Altoona).

The Catholic Church sex scandal first began to surface in the 1980s [2].  A seminal investigation by the Boston Globe in 2002 led to the criminal prosecution of five predator priests [3].

Subsequent investigations revealed a widespread pattern of abuse across the United States and the globe, with an institutional…

The Meaning of: Be Strong

Note: I consider this SO Useful, that, for Better Visibility, shall not be posting anything till Monday! …This is NOT about (any) Religion. It is about Fighting against Our Weaknesses.

Today I learnt what I would call a Very Good meaning of the words: “Be Strong (in the Lord)”. (Ephesians 6:10, etc). And for me, at least, this a Very Important lesson.

I understood the meaning of Be Alert, Stand Straight, Be Courteous, and even Be Brave. But How was one to Be Strong?

And Paul was Not speaking about ‘Becoming’ Strong.

So today, while I was casually watching TV, happened to come across the ‘Tales of Narnia (3),” and there, I think it was Aslan himself who told that girl,

“Be Strong;

Do Not Give in to Temptations!”

That made Very good sense indeed.

And quite an Important lesson for me. Here I am, struggling to bring my weight down, …I have brought it down from 85 kilos to 80, but want it Much lesser! And what was I doing? Popping a couple of Biscuits, or two small helpings of Peanuts, or two lozenges, into my mouth (It was always two, and sometimes as much as Six). Not a Mortal sin, for Sure, but my weight Remained where it was, and Grinned at me.

So, Yesudas, Being Strong means Not giving in to Temptations.

It is Not just a question of Keeping Strict watch over one’s weight. I give in to playing too many games (Solitaire, Brick games) over the computer, I give in the temptation Not to walk, (that is going back to weight again), …Well, my list is Short nowadays, thanks to Decades of Very Hard Trying.

It is Over to YOU now! 🙂

Here is a small list of the Humankind’s common Weaknesses.

  • Procrastination
  • Wastefulness
  • Irritability
  • Uncaringness

In What All do YOU Need to be Strong? 🙂

Daily Wisdom

Our ‘Dreams’ do not succeed because We forget Our DUTIES!

We Fail to Speak up. We do not even Observe, Regard or Notice. We just see/look and Pass On. Like the two in the story of the Prodigal.

Let Us Observe, Regard and ACT on Our Duties to Our Neighbour, which is the Whole World, and We Will be Amazed at the Results.

We forget that We have a DUTY to Our Coming Generations, to provide them with a Good, Green Climate., Water, Air, and very Importantly, Justice.

All this Needs Fighting For.

“He who observes the wind will not sow, and he who regards the clouds will not reap” – Ecclesiastes 11:4 Don’t wait. Waiting is a trap never be caught in it.  Never wait for the conditions to…

Tears in Heaven

Dear Anna has spoken about the Pain of the Sexually Abused, and their Healing.

God’s Love, His Plans, the Role of Forgiveness, and perhaps Time, all would play a Role in Healing, as would Positive People.

I curled up on the couch a few nights ago, expecting to watch a good old-fashioned whodunit on television.

Unfortunately, I discovered too late that the corpse in the story belonged to a child molester. A woman sexually abused as a girl had killed him, in her effort to protect another child from abuse.

Suddenly the program was deadly serious — raising all too familiar issues of credibility, deception, violence, guilt, and justification.

The Lens of Abuse

Though this blog regularly deals with the topic of abuse, victims must strive not to view the world through that lens.

There are countless good things — and good people — in the world. Victims deserve better than to be robbed of those, in addition to having been battered and violated.

A Happy Face

There is a deep and pervasive sadness associated with abuse.  Our childhoods were stolen from us, our lives shattered.  We cannot pretend our abuse never occurred; cannot…

This made me Tremble with Eagerness!

Make God laugh

Many are the times I feel I am doing the Right thing, that I am walking with God, and walking along the Path and Way He is showing.

And difficulties, and even Problems, crop us, show their ugly face. When that happens, I am like Most people, …You know what I mean! 😦

But what does God do in similar circumstances? Read this very good post, which I am just sharing. It made me Tremble with Eagerness.

What makes God laugh? A reflection on Psalm 2

Get Strength… HERE!

For this post, I wanted my title to resemble a Link, which says: Please click here, etc. We shall see that We can get our Strength from God.

We Desire the Best for Our Children. Christ Himself had said: “Bad as You are, You know how to give Good things to Your children.” Luke 11:13.

And All Too Often We Forget that Our Heavenly Father Desires the Very Best for Us, and Equips Us for Every Challenge that He presents Us.

Our Strength is to had from God. It is like a Cheque. We just have to pick it up!

Strength can be had by:

  • Being in Contact with God,
  • Listening to Him, and
  • Doing what He Commands.

From this point, this article consists of Excerpts from Anna Waldherr‘s post, reference at bottom.

Gideon and his 300

Image from article

“You may recall that before battle Gideon was instructed by God to reduce his forces from 32,000 to 300 men.

Who among us would have the faith – and courage – to do this? Yet Gideon did, so that the glory of victory would be the Lord’s alone. Victory, in fact, followed with God striking fear into the enemy at the sound of Gideon’s trumpets.

What does this teach us?

First, God does not look to our weakness, but rather His strength. Gideon’s leadership credentials were not impressive in a worldly sense. He was the youngest in his father’s house, and came from the weakest clan in the tribe of Manasseh. Still the Lord favored him.

Second, God knows our nature, and is merciful toward us.  Gideon was very human. His reaction to news of the Lord’s favor was cautious, at best. Gideon asked twice for confirmation which God gave him.

Third, we may be called on to step out in faith, when reason would dictate otherwise.  Gideon could “reasonably” have declined the Lord’s direction. Instead, he chose to act on God’s assurances. Despite his doubts. Despite his fears. That took real courage.

Often the challenges facing us seem overwhelming; the problems of the world seem so large as to be beyond the ability of any single individual to address. Helen Keller said, “I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something.”

And the One who can do all things stands beside us.

And so it was, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream and its interpretation, that he worshiped. He returned to the camp of Israel and said, ‘Arise, for the Lord has delivered the camp of Midian into your hand’ ” (Judges 7: 15).

John 14:1-3

[Posted under:

  • Relevant Biblical verses, and
  • Helpful Biblical verses.]

“1 Do Not be Afraid and Upset,” Jesus told them. “Believe in God and Believe also in Me. 2 There are Many rooms in My Father’s house, and I am going to prepare a place for You. …3 And After I go and Prepare a place for You, I will come back and take You to Myself, so that You will Be where I Am.”

John 14:3 Jesus comes to receive us

  1. The Master, Lord and King Prepares places for Us, (personally!).
  2. And the Same Lord comes to Receive Us.

That is called Love and Concern. He had called Us Friends. By such words and others He Proves that He Really considers Us His Friends!

Pushing Onwards!

Hello, my Friends! I share many things that happen to me in the Hope that my Experiences would be of some use to a Fellow Sufferer! 🙂

The last few weeks were what I can only describe as ‘Heavy’ ones for me. I had to ‘Plod along,’ ‘Push myself forward,’ and the whole thing was like Wading through Molasses!

It is not as if I was Depressed or anything. I started a New Page in Facebook, kept writing powerfully in that and in Twitter, and all that. But it was ‘Pushing myself Forward.’

Plodding along

Plodding Along, by Rachel Curran.

Really Many years ago, I read of a man who lived alone in the African ‘Bush,’ was bitten by some very poisonous snake, and had to reach the hospital. And it was raining Cats and Dogs. The hospital was quite a distance away, and he kept walking, walking, walking… for about 12 hours if my memory serves me right!

And the way he had described his walk had been that he had kept on ‘Putting One Bloody Foot After the Other Bloody Foot.’

This Philosophy has helped me Many times in my life. It is what I had been doing these past days! Happy, but Plodding along.

Whenever I do this, am reminded of Jesus words in Luke 9:62. The Verse needs quite a bit of Reflection to understand, though. For those interested in that, please click here. Though the Verse has its own particular meaning, for me it has also signified Holding on to the Plough (Whatever We have been given in life, particularly by way of Duty) and Keep Going Forward!

So Keep On, my Dear Friends! Down, may be, but Not Out! We Never say Die! 🙂

Helpful Bible Verses …0001 …Psalm 23:6

Under this title, I begin a New series. The title could have been Bible Verses that Helped me, and that would Very Much be the Truth. I start with Psalm 23:6, which means the 6th verse of the 23rd Psalm. This is one of my Favourites, and one that Helped me Live.

I present my Own translation of the verse:

“Surely, Only Goodness and Kindness, Shall follow me, All the days of my life.”

relaxed man

Now a few words on the verse. ‘Only Goodness and Kindness!’ Is that not an amazing statement? Does life seem so? Would We even Imagine that our lives would be so?

But that Is God’s plan for Us. Given the Freedom and Opportunity (Yes, We Do have the Freedom even to Refuse God!), He Not Only makes Us Realize the Truth, He makes it a Reality in Our lives. I attest to that.

For Best Effect and Results, All these verses are meant to be used as Mantras for Dhyaan.
