Ok, Ok, Don’t Follow it! 🙂
India, a country of 125+ Crores (1.25+ Billion) people, has, may I say ‘managed’ to get 2 medals so far in the Olympics. Don’t think I am down-playing this. I am So swollen with Pride today that my Shirt would not fit! Haha.
Just a teeny weeny look at this ‘Darlings‘ (Rightly called so) of India.
P V Sindhu, winner of Silver at Badminton at the Rio Olympics 2016. Image from the Internet.
Sakshi Malik, winner of Bronze in Wrestling in her class. Image from the Internet.
After Sindhu won her Silver, – though this means she lost the Gold, – Practically the Whole of India Celebrated. Here’s an image, of Crowds Waiting to watch the Match.
Image from Twitter. From the photograph, I would say that this must have been at about 5:30 PM, whereas the match was to begin a whole Two hours later!
And, did I tell You, my very own Sister, a Die-Hard Hermit if ever there was one, who gets out of her house Only if she Must, in distant (for me) Bangaluru (Bangalore of old) was watching the match!
The Point is this:
Thus Proved that There are things that We Yearn for, Over and Above Earning Lots of money. Twitter was going Mad, as was the Media.
But even here, Titillation plays its part; after all, Sports is part of Entertainment. Leaving that aside, In Sports, Can We Imagine the Amount of Energy and Time these Sports-persons must have spent to Achieve results like these?
Let us take two scenarios:
One: The Sports person. She/He is Waking up, Going through the Toilet, Eating, Moving-about/Travelling, Sleeping… And Thinking about What? The Sport.
Two: The Majority of Us. Through all these Same things, What are We thinking about? …Money, Family, Sex, Pleasure.
The Victories of Sindhu, Sakshi and Cricket Prove to Us that there are things that We Ourselves hold High in Our Hearts.
Included in this would be A Better Future for Our Dear ones, which cannot be just More money, but, More than that,
It is also proved that We Very Firmly keep them buried Deep in out hearts, Not Allowing them to Raise their heads.
Graphic from the Internet.
Over to You.
I have faced at least ‘some’ Fire over posting this collage with my remarks.
But my Answer is this:
As I have stated, my site is not to Inform. But to Bring People to Action. The World in general, and We Indians in particular, are NOTORIOUS for being people full of Apathy.
Have We paid attention to the Pain and Problems of Our fellow Human Beings? HOW MUCH and What have We done to change the situation?
The main point of this post is for Each one of to Us to Examine How much We Care. Regards.
We have brought 4 G to the tops of mountains. But We have not been able to bring Water to the Villages. This is what the following graphic saying and showing. From Facebook.
Below is a screen shot of the advertisement that 4 G services are reaching the remotest places:
And here are two more, also from the Internet, on the Scarcity of Water.
I have named this: ‘Water scarcity and the Long Walk.’
And this one I call: ‘Water scarcity and the Puddle.’
Let us note that the Puddle is an artificial one. Water from the extremely dirty flowing source filters down to this puddle, and this Dirty water is what these villagers are collecting. …Most of them would not even Boil it before drinking. …Fuel to boil the Water would be a Consideration.
No, the Poor Rhinos are not drinking up Our Water to Scarcity levels. This is about Our Apathy to Our Own conditions, and that of Our Future Generations.
Image from Internet; from Google search for Maharashtra Drought 2016.
Meanwhile, on Planet Earth, to start with:
[ Contrary to my practice, am giving this first picture in greater pixels, so that We can notice the Scum on the surface of the Water, etc. All images, unless specified, from the Internet. ]
As Devinder Sharma, an award-winning journalist, writer, thinker and researcher respected for his views on food and trade policy has written in Facebook:
“The appalling drought in 10 States has not hit the sensibilities of people living in urban areas. People in cities somehow believe that the drought they hear about is happening in Africa. (From his post in Facebook; emphasis mine).
What he says is Well corroborated by one of the pictures he has uploaded:
That is Devinder Sharma on the left. Graphic from his post.

The Water Scarcity has Affected Too many walks of life, not just Water for us to Drink and that for Farming.
One Minakshi Malhotra, (B.Sc.MICROBIOLOGY, and B.Ed.and Post-Graduatn.in Dietetics & Applied Nutrition), responding to Devinder, has written some shocking things, (formatting mine):
“Some harsh realities ===>> Marathawada”s crisis is a ”Harvest of misery ” ! In Nalgonda, schoolkids miss classes to fetch water ! The acute water shortage in THANE ( in Mumbai) has hit hospitals & even life-saving surgeries.
Receiving water just 4 days /week, hospitals here are the worst hit. “Treatments like dialysis, bypass & deliveries need water, we need to plan surgeries in advance so that it doesn’t collide with the days when there is no water,” said a Doctor there.
Below are some more images from a Google search for: ‘Maharashtra Drought 2016.’ Maharashtra is a state in India, famed for Mumbai, and also Notorious for having the greatest number of Farmers committing Suicide.
He is not an actor. Just an ordinary farmer. The Plight on his face is Gut Wrenching.
Since these are not Rhinos, none of – The National Geographic, Animal Planet or Discovery will carry programmes on these Lowly Cattle. If You find me Over-sarcastic today, forgive me, my Heart is Burdened.
About Rhinos? Oh, Yes, here it is:
It seems that at one time, Rhino population had gone down by an appalling 98%! But, due to the Ceaseless Interest of people in Animal Planet, etc, and the Tireless work of Wild life workers, – sponsored, no doubt, by Very Rich, Very concerned businessmen, universities, and what not, the Rhino population has reached ‘safe’ levels again (I presume).
Let us note that the wise businessmen do not ‘cast money onto waters’ out of sheer love for rhinos. They well know that Lots of People will watch these programmes, which enable Lots of Ads, by which these ‘Educational channels,’ and the businessmen in the end, profit, and make Lots of money.
After all, People are concerned about Rhinos, but I am not at all sure Rhinos are concerned about People. Not that We should eliminate them for that.
Just What are We going to do with Rhinos, Tigers, Rare Snakes, and who knows what else, if there is No Water left to Till Our Fields? Water Scarcity is a Huge Ogre on the horizon.
Organizations like Climate Change Request one Tweet a Day. I Shall PESTER You for One Statement Every Day!
2. Oppose, in Facebook and Twitter, etc, ministers using Thousands of Litres of Water to make Helipads, to avoid travelling some 80 Kms by Car!
3. Let’s Say NO to Rivers being given on Lease for the preparation of Soft Drinks. The River Tamirabarani in Tamil Nadu has been given on Lease to Pepsi for 99 years or so, on the ridiculously cheap rate of 3 litres per rupee, which is Affecting the Farming. Imagine 150,000 litres being drawn from the river everyday for soft drink manufacture!
Soft Drink lovers might hate this. But let these factories be set up where there is No water scarcity, like in Greenland and Iceland. I presume that it would be easy to convert the Ice into Water.
4. I know a family in Erode, Tamil Nadu, India, and there must be Thousands more like them, who Daily Empty the Overhead Water Tank of their house, to Wash the House! Daily. Then they fill it again. Let US not do things like these.
5. Let us write to The National Geographic, Animal Planet or Discovery, asking them carry Repeated programmes on the Water Crisis.
6. Let us make Smaller Swimming Pools, please.
7. Add to this List, at the Comments section.
PS: India is a country used to Floods. But these last few days We have had Forest Fires, covering almost 7,000 sq. kilometres. Devinder Sharma connects Water Scarcity and these forest fires. Please peruse:
Or should I say, India’s Huge Success with the GPS! Must say that along with Every other Indian, Felt, and Feel, Very Proud indeed over this. Kudos to the Scientists and the Entire Team. Yet, as Usual with Yesudas, …BUT.
It seems that the Indian Military would be helped the Most by this. But of course a Most Wide Range of Benefits are also there: Knowing Where You are, in Any and Every situation, Finding the Best Catches (of Fish) at Sea, and Accident and Disaster pin-pointing, etc, etc. For all of this, Kudos again.
And India has done this AHEAD OF such advanced nations as those of Europe, Japan, etc, and has become just the Third country to have its own GPS!
It is Not that I want that Other, More Necessary things like Water and all should have been dealt with First.
Urgency has been paid to projects like these, the GPS, the Bullet Trains, etc,
Water Scarcity, the Joining of the Rivers, Increasing the Numbers of Ordinary, Un-Reserved Coaches in Trains, Running More Trains, Providing Drinking Water to Rail Passengers, etc., Are Not these treated as subjects of Secondary Importance by the government?
NONE OF THESE give an Idea of the Crowds INSIDE the Compartments/Buses. You do not have Room to aim a camera.
This is from No less a Railway station than NAGPUR, a Very Major hub, where there were Just Four Water Taps, of which Two were Not working. I am witness to that. This is My photograph.
Sure, there are a Load of people, for whom the Crowds, the Water Scarcity, is Not an Issue. But Surely again, We Do Not Belong to that Catagory, do We? 🙂
It would seem that the new government at the centre in India today is like the Young Man, who just wants the latest in everything, irrespective of its Need, or Even Worth.
It that not a Shame? I call it Criminal.
Christ had called Us Sheep. But in a Very positive way. And George Orwell had called the people Sheep again, in a …?
But are Not the Pigs making Asses out of Us?
This post is inspired by Our Friend Rajiv Chopra’s post, reference at bottom. And as my thoughts on that were a bit longish, as WordPress suggests, have made a separate post of it.
He has asked, in short: “Why does this evil persist today? Why aren’t there more people protesting?”
And this, below, is what I had replied:
My Dear Rajiv, You present something very dear to my Heart!
I cannot be bold enough to say that I have ‘the’ answer. But certainly I have ‘an’ answer. And it is: Because Mankind Likes to take the Easy-Way-out.
But when I say Mankind, I divide it into 3 groups: Let us say 10% Good guys, 10% Bad Guys, and the rest, Indifferent. And I find that except for the Bad Guys, the rest, the 90% prefer, Yes, the Easy Way.
The 90% get satisfied with the Scatterings, like a Bike, a Car, and a TV. You might to add Beer, Parties, Cricket and even Festivals to the list. …If they can take the Bike/Car to post a letter at a Post Box just 50 metres from their door, they think they are Very Clever. Remember the movie: The Gods must be Crazy?
I remember The story of the King who was SO kind, he wanted to Feed the Lazy in his kingdom. But the Mantri found out that practically All the population turned up to Eat! So a special house was built for them, and when they had got in, Fire was set to the House. Just Three refused to move.
One shouted for help, One blamed the King for getting them into this, and the Third told them to keep Quiet.
Years ago We had heard of the Coming Water Scarcity, which is Now a Reality. Fifty Years ago, in India, would Anybody have thought of Water in Bottles, and in Inverted Jars of it in Offices? …Twenty Years Ago, the Climate Change started getting Talk about. Then The Dangers of Nuclear Energy. But, like that King’s Lazy fellows,
The Bad Guys want Pleasures too, and for that, Big Money, and for that, they are ready to Toil for it.
They Toil by Distorting what is to be Taught, like, when I was learning History, the name of Lord Wavell Never stuck to my memory. The Bad Guys churning out Poor Books, the Indifferent Teaching, the points not driven in by meaningful questions even in the exams, (they asked about MB, not this Wavell, after all), all contributed to Our Youth Not even Knowing who Wavell was.
And on my part, History was never my favourite subject anyway, (Me taking the Easy way out in not paying attention to what I did not like!).
The Bad Guys lead us around like a Donkey following a Carrot on a Stick, and Because of this Our Lethargy, – shall We call it Laziness, – Indifference, and, to Use my words again, Taking-the-Easy-Way-Out, Most of the people get fooled into becoming, and Remaining, Asses.
I would call this a Good picture. It is Not just a question of the Carrot and the Stick. The Bad Guys are not merely ‘poking’ at Us. Without Apology I would say that They are Shafting Us. And they take trouble to Take Aim, too. Alas. …Both images from the Internet.
The reference to Rajiv’s post:
When I was a Youth I too had been much worried about Comets and what not, my Dear Charles. To tell the Truth, had been worried about the Y2K bug too. But I had been a Babe as far as computers were concerned, and so had been extremely worried about mine.
As You say, much of our Fears is due to lack of Scientific knowledge, and also, there are very few scientists, and lesser one who are not for sale! Also, Very true about those who stand up for causes while lining their pockets.
For all that, You have mentioned Climate Change many times without really seeming to take a Strong stand on that.
In my opinion, — I am No Scientist, just a Philosopher, — putting ‘Time Tables’ to calamities seems to be the problem.
As I have mentioned elsewhere, Many People in India, particularly in the cities, even in towns, are having to Buy their Drinking Water. I have heard of Water Rationing in California. California in the US! So Ok, if You say that is Not because of the Climate Change, …do Reasons need a Name and Category? Are we going to act Only If the name is correct? If low lying areas are getting flooded now, is it normal?
Water Scarcity, the Looting of Natural resources by the dirty elements in collusion with the politicos and the judges, Corruption, …Have to be Fought.
Al Gore said that about man-made climate change. A lot of other people have said it, too. But it isn’t true. If the debate were over, then no one would be debating it anymore. There was a time when it was widely believed that there were canals on Mars and bathing was unhealthy, and just a few decades ago doctors said cigarettes were good for us. Those debates are over.
When you announce that the conversation has ended while someone is still disagreeing with you, it does nothing to lure them over to your side. In fact, it accomplishes the opposite. We don’t like to be told we’re wrong, but we really don’t like to be told that we aren’t intelligent enough to recognize the facts. Such an assertion causes us to dig in and cling more fiercely to our position.
That’s easy to do in a…

I Can think of at least 20 in my area who are Hungry. At least a 100 must be living in Fear; of their Future, their Husbands, of being Abandoned by their Children.
A man nearby, a Compulsive Gambler, has chased off his wife. This Woman is a prime candidate if You want to count the Bones in the Human body, without buying a Skeleton. Their Youngest girl is about 15 now. The older one already has a Baby, father Unknown or Unacknowledged. Means, All the Children Can and Could have Spoken up for their Mother. But Nobody is interested in bringing this poor woman home. It is Not because She is of a Bad Character either.
A Woman nearby has Two Buffaloes. People can save up quite a Lot with that. She exists on Gruel. Her husband is a Pure Drunkard; she has to give him money to drink, and receive his beatings.
Typical Indian buffalo, and typical Indian conditions! No, it is Not That woman in this picture. Yes, her buffaloes are Lean like this one. Yet she can make her living with them. And she does Not have a bit if greenery like this. But she does have a small plot, some 10 metres by 10 metres, on which she keeps some hay, which her neighbours would like to gobble up! Her husband cannot bothered by ‘small’ things like these.
By the way, just now I am living in South India. But I did not find the Economical standings in the North very different.
Let me Remind You that the Water Situation in India is getting Worse and Worse. In Erode, People have to Buy Water to Drink, and Even for their Toilet necessities! Govt Water Supply in our Area is a Trickle, and our Own motors give Us Muddy Water.
