Actually Lost the above link; the page had suddenly closed. Found her page after some effort, and found the link after a LOT of scrolling. Had a hard time passing them by. YOU WOULD FIND HER SITE INTERESTING. 🙂
When I was getting trained for my Priesthood some 45-50 yrs ago, We had classes on Values for quite a few periods. That, plus my latter studies on the subject and my Reflections, cannot be condensed into a post (of my type).
In the fewest words, Values are what Humankind Desires.
In my longish career, I had a student whose highest value was to cook and feed. …I do not think she was/is alone in that.
Thus there is a Hierarchy of Values (what are most important for an individual).
For a Long time, discipline was my most important value. People might find Courage, Honesty, Beauty, Cleanliness, whatnot as their first values.
Now I think Love, Peace and Happiness are the Most Important ones.
Pity the people (which is what Most people are today) who get their happiness from biryani, cars, …in short, Wine, Women and Song, as it is said.
Problem: the day they don’t get that, their happiness goes phut. So they have to make money, make money, make money, Every day, Every Hour; Even if they have to Sell their Honour, Honesty and Integrity. (Am sure none of my readers fall in this category)!
(MP is member of Parliament! Indians tolerate this – viz: gogoi becoming mp!)
Children are NOT born with the right hierarchy of values.
That is why the world has had teachers and gurus.
It surprises me, horribly, that people think Only about themselves.
The state, in the form of the ruling party, is NOT supposed to Interfere in teaching values.
In Ancient India, the king KNELT at the Rishi’s feet, STOOD UP for him, and GAVE HIM A HIGHER SEAT.
So, in the Original Indian way of things, IT WAS NEVER SUPPOSED THAT THE STATE WOULD DARE TO TEACH ABOUT RIGHT AND WRONG.
Unless supervised by Parents (parents worthy of that name), children have frequently turned out like this, and worse.
joodges and law-yers only know the law, (often made for their own advantage!). It is the Family (even, and particularly, Old Ladies, even if Uneducated) that knows about Justice, and Values. As such children should listen to their parents. Of course too many so-called parents take advantage of their children.
But We are not talking about them, are We? 🙂
There is very little sense of THE OTHER in India now.
First of all, children should learn to ‘take’ a no. I accept that there are nut-case parents who should be in jail. Before all this, WHY are children kept in separate rooms? So their parents can have sex ubditurbed?
Narcissistic parents are notorious for not allowing their children to have any boundaries. They have no problem going through their children’s personal belongings or even breaking or getting rid of things their child uses or loves. Children are allowed no privacy, & some narcissistic parents go as far as removing their bedroom doors. Possibly the worst thing narcissistic parents do is refusing to allow their children to say “no”.
Narcissistic parents are too self centered to realize or even care that by not allowing their children to say no, they are teaching their children some pretty terrible lessons. When children learn that saying no is bad & not allowed, this teaches them that others can treat them however they wish. This opens the door for other wicked people to abuse these children. It also sets these children up for a life of misery because they don’t believe they have the…
Saddened to hear, over the BBC, that No help is arriving.
This, despite a situation like this.
That reduces my belly to a jelly. But no matter.
WHY isn’t even the (Chritian) West involved? …Have noticed, over time, that helping ‘Others’ does not seem to be a priority for Hinduism. …But why not even Arab, and Muslim countries like Indonesia, et al?
As I see it, NOBODY seems to be liking the Taliban‘s policies.
“Mi piacciono i vecchi. Possono essere dei meravigliosi bastardi perché non hanno niente da perdere. Le uniche persone che possono essere se stesse sono i bambini e i vecchi bastardi”.
My Dear Shiva, You present good hopes. …But I do not think a WW at this stage would be the end of the Earth. …Dog putin, if he starts it, would ally with china, n korea, and possibly venezuela. On the other side would be the West which is Bigger than NATO (non NATO members would be joining in).
I do not think most of Africa or S America would be involved (except for crackpots).
My Respects, Love and Regards to All the Ladies in the World. Especially to Our Lady bloggers, and the Brave Ladies of Ukraine and Russia.
Let me Salute the Brave Ladies of India who WALKED, often Carrying their Children, HUNDREDS of Kilometres in 40+ centigrade heat, due to our prime minister modi’s unplanned handling of the Corona lockdown.
It’s International Women’s Day, and there’s little sign of public acknowledgement, presumably because there’s so much else on the public mind.
My thoughts are with the women of Ukraine. It is barely believable that just a few weeks ago they were living comfortably in situations similar to our own. Today they fear for their lives and those of their loved ones. Some are preparing to fight. I heard a woman interviewed who said it takes strength in the hand and fingers to fire a weapon. When asked how she would feel about killing someone she said she wasn’t thinking about that, just concentrating on the moment.
Many have left home, husbands, and other family to take their children on long journeys to uncertain safety, with tags showing their children’s blood group sewn into their clothes.
There have been pictures of people carrying a loved pet, and I’ve…
